Toto is the company that manufactures the elegant Japanese toilets referred to as Washlets. These toilets come with the option of a heated seat, a bidet, and deodorizer, among other things.
Before forming Toto its members were session musicians for Steely Dan[3] Seals and Crofts[4and Crofts[4] Boz Skaggs and Sonny and Cher. [5] Guitarist Steve Lukather was the band's leader.
About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.
In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back was a complete failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation with two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand around the world.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It's a change from the ballads of previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is put in financial difficulty. They decide to change their name and record a new album with an entirely new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they come to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
Music
Toto is an American rock band that enjoyed their biggest success in the eighties. The band was founded by session musicians who had experience and has sold more than 40 million albums in the world.
Toto was the first album released by the band in 1978. It was a huge success that helped the band gain international fame. Since then, the group has released 14 albums which have all been a hit.
Toto composed their first and only movie score in 1984 for the film Dune. This was a huge project and the entire band was required to participate. Kingdom of Desire was another hit album. After a world tour, drummer Bobby Kimball left the band and www.to-topia.com was replaced by drummer Fergie Frederiksen from Le Roux. The band continued with their fifth studio album, Isolation. The album included a number hits, such as "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and went on hiatus. This gave the individual members of the band the chance to pursue their own projects. In 1996, the group reformed to tour and make an album. It was the first time that all original members were on stage together in over a decade.
The following year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time that all of Toto's original members appeared on stage at once. The group broke up after this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit show for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in over 31 years that all Toto's original members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
Tours
Toto has remained one of the most loved rock groups for more than three decades, having scored massive hits such as "Rosanna," "Hold The Line," and their 8X-platinum smash, "Africa." The band's anthemic arena-rock is inspired by a variety of styles, including progressive rock, world beats, soul, and jazz.
The band suffered several setbacks throughout their final times, despite their fame. In 2002, keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes were forced to take a medical leave of absence. Drummer Shem von Schroeck stepped in however the group was not the same without Paich and Phillinganes. In 2008, a string lineup changes and a string of disappointing releases prompted Toto to break up for a few years. But, the group recommenced touring in 2012 with the release of their album, 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album was a return to form for the group and the tour was accompanied by sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was bolstered by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had returned to the band.
Toto's music is as popular today as it was during the 1970s and 1980s, gaining new fans with each passing generation. Their success has made them a constant part of pop culture, and their live performances are always full of energy and excitement.
