8 April 2011

Large amounts of unlicensed medicines have been taken by Department of Health officials throughout a search of a home in Glengormley.

A man was spoken with by department officers about unlawfully importing and consequently providing unlicensed impotence medicines through the web.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medication offenses.

He will now be the topic of a report to the general public Prosecution Service.

The search was brought out by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its workplace, Peter Moore, stated: "It is crucial that we get the message across that unlicensed medications can be hazardous.

"These types of items being offered, generally online, have undergone no quality assurance and there can be no warranty about their safety.

"You just do not know what you are taking or the conditions these items were made in. More significantly, you do not know the effect drugs like this might have on your health."
